The Idaho parent-taught course costs $100 to enroll.

Students must be age 14½ or older to begin the course.

Yes. Students who wish to enroll in the Idaho parent-taught course must first obtain their Idaho driver training permit from their local DMV.

Students must achieve a score of 80% or higher on each lesson test in the course. After successfully passing the course, the certificate will be available in the student’s course dashboard.

Idaho HB628 was signed into law on March 17, 2026. This bill removes the previous requirement that students must reside in an eligible school district to use a parent-led driver instruction program. The program is now available to all Idaho teens who are getting their license for the first time.

While working on the course, students may practice behind the wheel with a parent or guardian. Students must log at least 40 daytime hours and 10 nighttime hours. Families can use the Parent Supervising Driving Booklet to track practice time. More information is available in the Idaho Driver’s Handbook.
